Photography
Mist in the folds, hard light by nine, and a golden hour that lasts about twenty honest minutes.
The Nilgiri foothills are a landscape photographer's problem in the best way: huge tonal range, fast-moving weather and light that changes character within minutes. Plan around the light rather than around the map.
Morning
Mist collects in the valleys and burns off from the top down. Shoot the layers early — by mid-morning the haze flattens and the contrast goes.
Wildlife
Long lenses, high ISO tolerance and patience. Safari vehicles are shared and moving, so a beanbag or a soft brace beats a tripod. Nothing gets set up for you.
Evening
The last hour before sunset gives warm side-light across the ridges. Afterwards the sky holds colour for a while — worth waiting for.
Worth Checking First
Drones are not permitted over reserve areas, and photography inside protected areas follows forest department rules. Do ask us before you fly or film anything and we will tell you exactly where you stand.
