Who Runs It
The forest department, rather than any resort — which means no property in Masinagudi can promise you a guaranteed seat, ourselves included. What we can do is get tea into you, tell you exactly how things stand that week, and have you at the gate in good time. That combination works more often than not.
Timings
Departures are in the morning and the late afternoon, at fixed times that change with the season. The vehicles are limited in number. Arriving early matters more than almost anything else you can control.
What to Bring
Binoculars, a long lens if you shoot, a hat, water, and something warm for a cold start. Neutral colours. No perfume.
What a Good Morning Looks Like
Elephant, chital, sambar, gaur, langur and a long list of birds are all likely, and any one of them is worth the early start. Tiger and leopard are here but seldom seen. Come for the whole forest and you will almost always come back happy — and if a big cat does appear, it will be the story you tell for years.
On the Vehicle
Stay seated, keep voices low, and resist the urge to ask the driver to edge closer. Animals settle around quiet vehicles and melt away from noisy ones — patience is genuinely the thing that produces sightings.
Before You Go
Verify current timings, entry points and booking arrangements close to your travel date. This is the one part of the trip most likely to have changed since anything you read online was written.
